Artist Masterclass Series

Master artists from a variety of practices hailing from around the country will lead students through different aspects of the performing arts throughout the year! 

Artist Masterclass Series - Bringing a Mask to Life
WONDERHEADS introduces the fundamentals of what they call the 'storytelling body' - bringing a mask to life using physical expression and articulation. Students will leave with a greater sense of physical awareness, and a better understanding of how to create a fully realized character. This is a physical workshop intended for Actors, Dancers, Directors, Writers, Teachers, Devisers, and anyone with a curious spirit!

Artist Masterclass Series - Spoken Word & SLAM Poetry
In this day long spoken word workshop, participants will work from the ground up to deliver a completed work of SLAM poetry. Participants will tackle questions of structure, tone, language, figures of speech, ending with each of them performing their own poem. Open to anyone interested in learning about storytelling, SLAM, spoken word, and performance poetry—from beginners through to more experienced!

Note: Participants can see the instructor—Brendan McLeod—live when he performs his one man show Brain & Other Stories at Centre Stage at Surrey City Hall on February 1, 2019.

Really Uncoordinated Dancers
Want the joy of dancing without the pressure of being any good? Are you brand new to dance or want to return to the basics? Then this class is for you! A professional dance instructor will guide the lead-of-foot but joyful-of-heart through a musical theatre/jazz class, breaking everything down to its simplest components. A typical class involves a warm-up, technique, choreography, and a cool-down.

Paint at the Play
Let your kids have fun and get their hands dirty with a variety of creative art projects while you have some time to yourself. Scheduled to coincide with a matinee performance of the Arts Club productions—professional theatre close to home. Paint at the Play is free with the purchase of a theatre ticket. The Shakespeare Playground - As You Like It
“All the world’s a stage…” Join us in the magical Forest of Arden to explore one of Shakespeare's most beloved comedies, complete with dueling dukes, plucky princesses, brawling brothers, clever clowns, funny farmers—and even a professional wrestler, a snake, and a lion! Using props, costumes, music, improvisation, theatre games, and stage fighting techniques, we’ll rehearse for a final ensemble performance of scenes from AS YOU LIKE IT. No previous experience necessary. Come dressed to move and pack a lunch.
