Chantrell Creek Rehabilitation - 13568 Crescent Road

Project Update: Rehabilitation of Chantrell Creek’s natural drainage system at this location is currently underway. Project construction is scheduled to respect the timing windows for bird nesting and fisheries. Instream works is also weather dependent and expected to be complete by the third week of November 2018, weather permitting. The parking lot at nearby Elgin Heritage Park is being used to stage materials and equipment during construction. To ensure public safety, it is currently closed for general use and will be restored and re-opened upon project completion.

Project Description

The City Engineering department is planning construction on 13568 Crescent Road, a City owned property. The City Engineering and Parks department purchased the property in February 2015 with the intention of rehabilitating the creek on the property and expanding the existing City Parks Natural Area. Works include removal of previously installed ponds and drainage infrastructure (which are at risk of failing) and rehabilitation of the creek’s natural drainage system to enhance sensitive environmental habitat and restore natural drainage.

Project Location

Public Consultation

A Public Information Meeting was held on October 12, 2017 at Chantrell Creek Elementary. City staff presented the proposed works to remove existing failing drainage infrastructure and rehabilitate the site’s natural creek drainage system. Thank you to everyone who attended  and provided input into the process.

At the event, staff heard strong support for the project and answered questions from attendees. Review the Public Information Meeting presentation boards to learn more.

Project Timing

Construction of the Chantrell Creek Rehabilitation project is planned in two phases:

  • Phase 1 (February/March 2018) – Tree removal to meet provincial regulations for bird nesting
  • Phase 2 (commencing August 2018) – Creek work to meet federal and provincial regulations for in-stream works

As work progresses, there may be changes to our planned schedule. We encourage you to check here regularly for any updates.

Construction completion has been delayed to mid November 2018, weather permitting, due to significant rainfall in September impacting in-stream works.
