Road Closures and Obstructions

Road Repairs

Highway 99 at 152nd Street

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure’s 152nd Street overpass over Highway 99 incurred extensive damage following a forceful hit to the structure earlier this month. The City of Surrey’s Traffic Management Centre is providing real-time monitoring and carefully managing the impacts of travel restrictions on its road network in the Highway 99 and 152nd Street area.

Traffic has been restricted to one southbound lane over the overpass. Additionally, one northbound lane on Highway 99 (at 152nd overpass) is available with a speed reduction to 80 km/h. Access to the South Point Exchange and South Point Annex commercial district is unimpeded from both the north and the south directions and we encourage holiday shoppers to continue their patronage.

Operation of a single, southbound lane on the overpass helps to provide the best circulation for traffic and to minimize delays to motorists. The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure is working on a repair plan. Please check for ongoing updates.

Road Closures

Friday, March 2, 2018 to Sunday, March 4, 2018

Temporary road closure to facilitate a full removal and replacement of the rail crossing, including track, signal and drainage upgrades. A continuous temporary road closure will reduce the duration of the works, improve the quality of the final crossing, and increase safety during construction.

• Scott Road: Old Yale Road to 110 Avenue.

Detour Routes

Monday, January 29, 2018 to Friday, March 16, 2018

Temporary, 12-hour per day road closure of 179 Street in segments from 100A Avenue to Barnston Drive is necessary for the completion of the installation of storm and sewer mains.

The road closure will be implemented in four phases to reduce impacts to both traffic and local residents. The contractor anticipates that each phase will be completed according to the following schedule:

• 99A Avenue to 100A Avenue: January 29, 2018 to February 9, 2018;
• Lyncean Drive to 99A Avenue: February 13, 2018 to February 20, 2018;
• 98 Avenue to Lyncean Drive: February 21, 2018 to March 2, 2018; and
• Barnston Drive East to 98 Avenue: March 5, 2018 to March 16, 2018.

Detour Routes

Tuesday, February 13, 2018 to Tuesday, March 6, 2018

Temporary, 12-hour per day road closure for the completion of the installation of storm and sewer mains. This road closure is an extension due to poor trench conditions when installing sewer mains on 100 Avenue.

• 100 Avenue: 174 Street to Barnston Drive East.

Traffic Pattern Changes

King George Boulevard and 88 Avenue - March 5 to November, 2018

A traffic pattern change will be taking place to facilitate the SNG-LRT Early Works program, which involves the replacement of the Bear Creek Bridge's existing timber trestle bridge. The existing bridge is too narrow to accommodate the proposed SNG-LRT corridor, cannot carry the anticipated loading of LRT, and does not meet current seismic standards.

The Bear Creek Bridge replacement is being constructed in two stages. Stage 1 is the demolition of the east half of the existing bridge and construction of the east half of the new bridge. Stage 2 is the demolition of the west half of the bridge and construction of the west half of the new bridge.

During Stage 1 construction, traffic will be shifted to the west side of King George Boulevard, maintaining two lanes northbound and two lanes southbound and pedestrian movements. The existing northbound bus queue jumper lane will be temporarily closed to accommodate construction while maintaining sufficient space to maintain two-lane northbound and two lane southbound movements. All lanes and traffic patterns at the intersection of King George Boulevard and 88 Avenue will remain unchanged.

The Stage 1 traffic pattern change will be in effect 24 hours a day from March to June 2018. The traffic pattern changes will be implemented during the weekend of March 2, weather dependent, to allow sufficient time for the contractor to safely implement the traffic pattern changes before the following work week commences. It is anticipated that the Stage 2 traffic pattern change will be implemented in late June 2018 and will be in effect 24-hours a day until project completion.
